Corrib View Farmhouse Lough Corrib, Oughterard Co. Galway, Ireland
Coarse Fishing in Ireland
Ireland has some of the cleanest and most lightly fished freshwaters in Europe. Ireland is best known for its game fishing but it also has some of the finest coarse fishing waters, particularly in the western region. The Moycullen-Oughterard lake district offers many superb waters, all holding bream, roach, rudd, perch, eel, pike, and roach/bream hybrids.
The lakes range in size from 6 to 400 acres. The fishery board has developed some of the lakes to incorporate quality fishing stands, stiles and foot bridges. The newly created facilities now have several hundred "swims" available. The waters give excellent fishing throughout the year producing pike averaging 31b to12lb every year, bream averaging 2lb to 9lb and over, and roach to over 1lb.
